The Picasso Museum in Barcelona is indispensable for understanding the formative years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the more than 3500 works that make up the permanent collection. However, the Picasso Museum also reveals his relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death. The artist, born in Malaga in 1881, spent his youth with his family in Barcelona. This museum shows us the beautiful portraits painted in these young years, it includes as well a priceless group of the Blue Period works and ends with a complete series of 58 works painted in the year 1957 called “ the Meninas”, in cubist style.
Joan Miró was born in Barcelona in 1893, he attended art lessons in the Fine Arts School of the city, and although Miro´s works are to be found today in the world’s principal museums, many have remained in Catalonia, mostly in the Joan Miró Foundation of Barcelona. Paintings, tapestries and sculptures that represent one of the most important painters of the 20th century art history.
* Both museums have an entrance cost but , once again, remember that with an official guide you don’t wait on line ** On this tour I recommend a chauffeured car or a taxi to go from one museum to the other
